  • Description

Discover the rich legacy of Assam’s silk heritage with a visit to Sualkuchi, located about 35 km from Guwahati and renowned as the “Manchester of the East” and the world’s largest muga silk weaving hub.

With roots tracing back to ancient times (around 140 BC), when sericulture is believed to have spread from China to India, silk weaving in Assam flourished under the Ahom dynasty (1228–1826) through strong royal patronage. In the 17th century, organized weaving communities were established in Sualkuchi, making it a dedicated center for silk craftsmanship. The industry further evolved during the British era (19th century) with the introduction of improved weaving technologies like the fly-shuttle loom.

Today, Sualkuchi stands as a vibrant silk village where nearly every household is engaged in weaving. Experience the complete journey of silk—from yarn preparation and natural dyeing to intricate handloom weaving. Watch skilled artisans at work and hear the rhythmic “click-clack” of looms producing elegant mekhela chadars, sarees, and traditional garments. Visitors also have the opportunity to buy authentic Muga, Eri, and Pat silk products directly from artisans.

Interact with local weavers, explore traditional workshops, and shop authentic handcrafted silk products directly from the source. This tour offers a perfect blend of history, culture, and craftsmanship—ideal for anyone looking to experience the living heritage of Assam.

An amazing way to discover Bangkok. In krabi the stay was good.. Travel to nearby places were very good.. Hotel staff were very good.. In Phuket (Patong) the place was horrible.. The hotel you suggested was very bad..

I’ve been to Bangkok 3 times now and never really been that in love with the city but going on this tour gave a whole new appreciation for it, I saw places I’d never been, the temples at night are just amazing and so different to the crowded day scen

We joined this tour on the first day of our trip to Thailand after landing the night before. It was perfect to have someone guide us around the city that first night as we were getting our bearings and experiencing a new place for the first time. Our
