The monumental limestone rocks in Krabi attract climbers from all over the world to scale their heights – and they come in particular to Railay and Ton Sai. Many beginners are also tempted to try their hand here, whether they are looking for an adventurous day out or a more serious involvement in the sport. In Krabi, the reasonably safe technique of sport climbing is usually practiced. Sport climbing is a form of roped climbing where metal bolts, placed close together permanently in the rock, are used for protection. If you slip, your harness and rope will arrest the fall after a maximum of 50cm, leaving you to concentrate on improving your technique. It doesn’t take a long time to become a competent climber. No special skills are required, other than the will to climb, so it’s an activity that is suitable for all ages, including young children. The rewards are many, but all climbers report an overwhelming sense of achievement when they reach the top of their route, as well as an unparalleled view. The Half Day and Full Day courses assume no prior knowledge of climbing, though those with some experience can also attend, and will be assigned a different instructor. Techniques covered include belaying and top-rope climbing; the full-day course also includes rappelling and abseiling. All courses operate daily, 365 days a year. Note that interruptions are possible due to rain; in this case, additional time will be added on (if feasible) at the end of the course.

Itinerary

Take a climbing lesson from a certified guide on the shores of stunning Railay Beach. Receive expert instruction in belaying, rappelling, and holding, and then, when you're ready, ascend the beach's impressive limestone cliffs using a secure top rope. Feel the rush of ascending high above the white sand below, and marvel at the jaw-dropping views from the top. 

After an invigorating lunch break and some more afternoon climbing, tap into your adventurous spirit with the chance to explore nearby caves. Discover a new world inside the cliffs as you journey through mysterious caverns and scramble over rocks. Then, head to the famous Railay viewpoint, which towers 500 feet (150 m) above sea level. Here, you can rappel 33 feet (10 m) down against the backdrop of the turquoise ocean.
