Sankampang District in Chiang Mai is the heart of Thailand’s handicraft industry, where many major producers are located. This half-day tour will take you through local artisan shops along the Chiang Mai - Sankampang Road. You'll discover a variety of traditional and modern handmade crafts such as elaborate teakwood carvings, intricate silverware, beautiful lacquerware, high-fired ceramics, Thai silk, and cotton being woven on old-fashioned wooden looms. You'll also witness vibrant silk parasols being made and painted by skilled artisans. Along the way, you’ll visit a famous Thai Lanna handicraft center and see how Chiang Mai’s famous Sa paper and umbrellas are made step-by-step. You will also visit a silk center, a silverware factory, a jewelry factory, and a teakwood carving workshop. It’s a great opportunity to purchase quality handmade items at affordable prices.

Itinerary

• Morning Tour: 08:30- 12:00, Afternoon Tour: 13:30-17:00.
• 08:30 / 13:30: Pick up from your hotel in Chiang Mai and travel to Sankampang District, the hub of traditional Thai handicrafts.
• 09:00 / 14:00 – Arrive in Sankampang and explore artisan workshops and local shops showcasing handmade crafts, such as intricate parasol painting, pottery, silk weaving, and jewellery.
• Watch skilled artisans at work creating beautiful, detailed parasols and other crafts, and gain insight into their techniques and traditions.
• Visit the Thai Lanna handicraft centre and see how Sa paper and traditional umbrellas are made, learning about the process and history behind each craft.
• Take time to shop for locally made, high-quality products at affordable prices, perfect for souvenirs or gifts.
• 12:00 / 17:00: Return to your hotel after a memorable cultural tour, bringing home unique items and new knowledge about Thai craftsmanship.
